El ser humano es un animal muy especial, de eso no hay duda. Pero adem\u00e1s de ser muy especiales, los seres humanos nos hemos considerado superiores al resto de los animales ya que \u2014supuestamente\u2014 pose\u00edamos muchas caracter\u00edsticas exclusivas. Rasgos que s\u00f3lo eran humanos y que por muchos eran considerados divinos. Pero muchos de estos rasgos, como la conciencia de uno mismo o el [\u00abaltruismo\u00bb:http:\/\/www.junjan.org\/weblog\/archives\/2007\/06\/26\/el_altruismo_es_un_rasgo_evolutivo.html], se ha demostrado que no son exclusivos y que est\u00e1n presentes en otros primates, son al fin y al cabo, rasgos evolutivos.
\nUn reciente estudio publicado en la revista \u00abCurrent Biology\u00bb:http:\/\/www.current-biology.com\/ ha demostrado que la paciencia \u2014si si, la madre de la ciencia\u2014 es otro rasgo evolutivo que est\u00e1 presente tambi\u00e9n en chimpanc\u00e9s y bonobos. Los resultados son muy interesantes y demuestran que en algunas situaciones los chimpanc\u00e9s y bonobos son m\u00e1s pacientes que los seres humanos, aunque en otras no. Como la paciencia es necesaria para sofisticadas situaciones mentales, como la imaginaci\u00f3n de acontecimientos futuros, o el altruismo rec\u00edproco \u2014que implica tener que esperar la ayuda de otros\u2014 , los resultados de este estudio implican que la capacidad de planificar y cooperar en grupo apareci\u00f3 en un ancestro com\u00fan a seres humanos, chimpanc\u00e9s y bonobos, ancestro donde la impulsividad propia de otros animales despareci\u00f3. En palabras de los autores:
\nbq. Our results demonstrate that humans share similar levels of patience with bonobos and chimpanzees in some contexts. Both members of the Pan genus preferred to wait for larger delayed rewards, and did so for longer periods than other nonhuman animals tested thus far. Additionally, chimpanzees were actually more patient than humans when compared on similar temporal tasks… Based on the comparative evidence, we also suggest that the last common ancestor of Homo and Pan possessed an extended temporal horizon for decisions about food. Because short temporal horizons could preclude the evolution of sophisticated capacities such as mental time travel or reciprocal altruism, these findings imply that apes\u2019 abilities to plan for future activities or engage in flexible cooperative interactions might have arisen once the constraint of impulsivity was lifted.
